In the gospel of John, “the world” is not a passive or neutral place. It is dark; it is hostile, and it is unreceptive to the light.

On one hand, we see beauty in creation; we see the living in nature, on the streets, and in our homes. But at the same time, we also see the invisible; we sense the wounds, we see the shame, the broken and the oppressed.

Every picture has two sides. There are the colours and beauty of the moment captured, but there is also the world it lives in. It has two stories, a story of weeping and hope.
